The Lands Commission has disclosed to Citi Business News that it should complete the digital migration of all land documents by June 2019.
This will mean that accessing any information from the commission could be done remotely from any part of the country.
The development is also aimed at reducing the time needed to obtain information for purposes of land acquisition.
The CEO of Lands Commission, Dr. Wilfred Anim Odame tells Citi Business News the outfit is currently completed with just ten percent of the digital migration.
He spoke to Citi Business News on the sidelines of an engagement with some private sector investors on Ghana’s land administration reforms.
“What we are doing currently with the Vice President’s Office and the Lands and Natural Resources Ministry is to source for funding as well as engage the private sector to scale up the digitizing of all land documents,” he said.
Dr. Anim Odame is however hopeful of meeting the target as it seeks support from the World Bank and private sector investors.
“We are also looking forward to support from the World Bank which has earmarked some 30 million dollars in support of the program. This should help scale up the digitization from the ten to hundred percent target,” he added.
The move is but one of the measures being enrolled to achieve the government’s thirty day turnaround time for land registration in Ghana.
In addition, the Lands Commission is seeking to decentralize its operations through the establishment of satellite offices across the country.
Meanwhile the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia believes the new interventions should also help address current challenges being faced in the financial sector and the GRA with respect to mortgages and tax collection respectively.
